Reasons I Failed at NaNo 2010

Yes. I completely and totally failed.

My First Novel clocked in somewhere at 6,ooo words. Then I stopped, despite the exploding wardrobes.

My Second Novel edged in with 6,5oo words and then that sputtered and died. A bunch of you guys ended up popping up in my novel, which was fine at first. There was Mia (with unknown powers), Mercedes and Simon (these two as Vampires), Wolfie402 (as a werewolf), Laura Marcella (who is a mystery), and the list just kept on growing. But after I had Evil Blam show up with a Zombie Joan Crawford, I just couldn't take the story Seriously anymore and I had to stop before I started losing my very own sanity. I have very little sanity left. I need all the sanity I can hold onto.

This is what I look like on a good day

Thus the Third Novel was picked up. It was inspired by Ellen Hopkins and Laurie Halse Anderson. As you may imagine, it is not exactly a Fun book to write. There is a whole lot of Emotional Trauma. It deals with rape, suicide, cutting... All sorts of stuff. The one girl I found myself empathizing with... Well. I was thinking a little bit Too Much like her. When I started feeling suicidal I decided it would be healthy to take a week or so off from writing it. I started again a couple of days ago and am doing Fine now, but I seriously needed that time off.

So I didn't win this year. But I think that's okay, because I did write some stuff I probably wouldn't've otherwise.

SO...

Congratulations to everyone who Finished NaNo! And Congrats to those who tried, even if they weren't able to finish.

Here's Cake:

It's Pretty!

Have a great day me LamNams! :) Hope y'all had a great Thanksgiving (for those of you here in the States) for the rest of you I hope you had a Wonderful day toooo.... YAY!

I didn't win NaNo this year either. I did two days :)

I knew before I started that it was probably too much for me to take on right now, and I was right. (So was my husband, but I'll save letting him know that for a nice present down the road :)

Whenever I do NaNo, or don't do NaNo, I always learn something about my writing. That's a good thing, so win, lose, or draw, I'm happy with the results.

there you go, I didn't even try. so, you got further than me!

I'm with you. I managed about 10k and stopped after day 7. I had a ton of fun though, and it made me realise that next year I need to clear my November schedule to achieve the goal :P

I don't do NaNo anymore. :)

But I can tell you that writing anything is not failing! So congrats on what you did get! It's all a step forward.

first of all, you got like 12K words written, that's better than nothing. Also, there's always next year.
And now i want to eat that cake

12k is Grrreat!
(((here i'll tell you a secret... don't tell anyone else-- i only wrote 3k in all of november)))
you did EXcELLeNT!!!
btw, i have times while writing like that too... where you get too much into character and you NEED to take a break- for your health... SO! at least you can feel comfortable about portraying a genuine character! :)

@Suzi: Hey, two days is more than zero. :) I definitely agree with that last statement. I have learned stuff about my writing, and am quite happy with that.

@Tamara: Thanks! Even if you didn't try, you can still have some of that cake, just because you are Awesome.

@JamieGibbs: 10k is definitely a good amount of words. The weird thing was, I wasn't even that busy this Nov. Last year I was definitely more crazy. Strange stuff.

@Michelle: Thanks so much! I don't really think of this month as a fail at all. I definitely learned some good stuff. :)

@Falen/Sarah: Huh. That's true. There may be something wrong with me when I think that 12k is not a large amount of words anymore.

@aspiring_x: 3k is still more than none! And I do hope this character comes out as genuine. If it doesn't the whole thing will Not Work at all.

Well, look at that. A fellow Failure. Ah well. As long as we got something, it's all good, right?
For me, it was fun while it lasted. I got about 19k. But it was an idea I had for a while. I could've finished if only I had more time. At least, that's what I tell myself.
And by the way, thanks for including me. :) Especially because I was a werewolf and the whole story made you lose your sanity. Sometimes you just need to be a little insane. :D (Love the picture!)
Ellen Hopkins and Lauire Halse Anderson are both great writers, but I don't think a combo would be fun to write at all. You've got depressing written all over it.
But it defnitely deserves that very delicious looking cake....
Sorry. Got lost in the pretty design. :)
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving too!

Um... I don't think that Evil Blam would care for you linking his name to my blog. I'm not interested in being associated with him, either, although I do appreciate the potential traffic despite my blogging hiatus. (Can you imagine what Evil Blam's own blog would look like?)

and I had to stop before I started losing my very own sanity. I have very little sanity left. I need all the sanity I can hold onto.

Hey, Saner is my middle name — as I just had occasion to point out to you elsewhere — so maybe I can help. Do you have plans tonight? Would you like to do something not crazy at all? Shall we meet in person? Then it would be a Sanity Night Live!

...

Yes, I know, long way for a joke, and more's the pity I can't get up to your neck of the woods tonight anyhows. I'm hoping to visit friends in that general direction (being vague for the stalkers) before the month is out, though, so if you and Rebecca are available maybe we can do a get-together somewhere in the local metropolitan area with whomever's free.

Yikesaroonie! I'm glad that you took a break and sorted that all out. I was in some weird head space recently thanks to some medication, and it really freaked me out, which probably doesn't surprise you given your aversion to medication; I'm just glad that you're not turned off of writing as a result.

Mmm... I am invooked, eh. The pretender Blam has used my name thrice and disturbed the alphanumeric sorting of my autumnal yield of apples — best admired before dipped in arsenic and baked with melted puppies. He is correct, however, at least insofar as he states that I care not to be associated with him, nor do I care to be spoken of at all by the Miss Naomi Ruth who swaddles herself in long skirts and failure. Were it worth the energy I would subject you to a torrent of profanity of my own creation, but I shall leave it at a "Fie!"
...
Verification word: And I trust that she did not even bake that cake herself, eh. Disgusting!

There's always next year! I failed last year but this year, I was determined to win and I did! Yay! I still don't have a complete first draft but I'm a hell of a long way further than I would've been had I not done Nano. So hey, you got something written and that's always good.

Uh-oh.

Sorry, Naomi and, well, everybody.

@Wolfie402: Yay for Fellow Failures! 19k is not bad at all. I'd encourage you to keep plugging away at it. Maybe you could finish it this month?
Yes, it does have depressing all over it. I'm working on adding in some lighter moments, because it sure needs some. I did have a Great Thanksgiving! Thanks for asking! :)

Oh dear. I don't know what I was thinking. I must have still been suffering from Insanity and Loss of Mind.

Saner is my middle name
Haha... That's kinda' funny. So you're Saner than the rest?

we can do a get-together somewhere in the local metropolitan area with whomever's free.
That would be most fun. I know later in the month we will be leaving the General Area to visit relatives, but maybe something could be worked out.

I love the term Yikesaroonie, by the way. and I'm sorry about your crazy medication stuffses.

I'm just glad that you're not turned off of writing as a result. I believe it would take Death to stop me from Writing, and even then I'm not convinced I would stop. But, I'd have to wait and ask God that one.

@**** Blam: (Part of your name has been hidden in order to avoid invoking your presence)best admired before dipped in arsenic and baked with melted puppies. Hmm, those actually don't sound too bad. Kinda' making me hungry, I do admit.

who swaddles herself in long skirts and failure
Pffftt.... That is fantastic.

Fie to you too.

And I trust that she did not even bake that cake herself, eh. Disgusting! Of course I didn't bake it myself. If I did it would resemble a volcano that puked on a lumpy rock. And that is not a good kind of cake, i assure you.

@Hannah: Yay! I'm glad you won! I'm sure you can finish, which will be super exciting. I am glad that I was able to write what I did, regardless of 'winning' or not. :)

@Blam (again): Sorry, Naomi and, well, everybody. Psha, it's okay. I try to welcome all weirdos to my blog. Even the puppy eating ones.

This ain't fiction, baby; this is real life. We don't get named by writers with the qualities that our audience is supposed to consciously or unconsciously associate with us. It's just my mother's last name.
